Spanish photographer Juan Manuel Castro Prieto has visited Peru 15 times since his first trip in 1990. His most recent project focuses on shamanism, which centers on the belief that nature – also called Pachamama, or Mother Earth – lives in every man.

Some young Russians welcome the arrival of summer by heading to the countryside to perform rituals that date back to pagan times, like building a straw man and touching its penis to bring fertility and love. Photographer Claudine Doury followed them for three days during their rituals.

In 1994, photographers Alessandro Albert and Paolo Verzone set up a 4×5-inch folding camera on the beaches of Brighton, England, and Rimini, Italy. Hoping to reveal the different cultures of the two beaches, they captured portraits of people on holiday. Years later, they picked the project back up.
