Wayne Miller, a renowned photographer who chronicled World War II before producing his career-defining series on black families living in postwar Chicago, died Wednesday. He was 94. “He paved the ground for the rest of us who tried to depict the streets, the real life,” said Alex Majoli, president of Magnum Photos.

Martine Franck, a Belgian photographer known for understatement and elegance in her work, died at age 74 after a long battle with cancer on Thursday. Photographer Elliott Erwitt, a good friend and colleague, said what characterized her the most was the modesty and intellect not usually found in photographers.

Eleanor Callahan, the wife and muse of renowned American photographer Harry Callahan, passed away February 28 at the age of 95. They were “attached at the hip,” and Eleanor’s support of Harry enabled him to create some of the most important photographs of the middle 20th century.
